iglidur® V400 plain bearings are not suitable for high pressures or static high loads. However they are characterized by a high wear resistance all the way up to the maximum recommended surface pressure.

Mechanical properties

Maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Tribological conclusions cannot be drawn from it. With increasing temperatures, the compressive strength of iglidur® V400 plain bearings decreases. Fig. 02 clarifies this connection.

Moreover the limit of the permitted loads at +100°C is still very high with 20 MPa. The high elasticity is also shown in Fig. 03.

Permitted surface speeds

iglidur® V400 also permits high surface speeds due to the high temperature resistance. The very favorable coefficients of the bearing enable maximum surface speeds up to 1.3 m/s Even higher are the permitted speeds for linear movement and 3 m/s can be attained on the short term.

Temperatures

The long-term permissible maximum application temperature is +200°C. An additional securing is required at temperatures above 100°C. The wear resistance of the bearing is however excellent and claims a top position among all iglidur® materials. The compressive strength of iglidur® V400 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. This connection can be seen in Fig. 02.

Friction and wear

The coefficient of friction is dependent on the stressing of the bearing (Fig. 04 and 05). Furthermore, the coefficients of friction of iglidur® V400 are very constant. No other iglidur® bearing material exhibits a lower variance of the coefficients of friction, even when the shaft material is changed.

Shaft materials

The influence of the shaft material on the wear resistance is greater than with the friction. Here already at low loads (0.75 MPa) there could be significant variations, as Figure 06 shows. In wear, the iglidur® V400 bearings additionally show better values in rotating applications than in swivelling motion (Fig. 07).

Electrical properties

Specific forward resistance > 1012 Ωcm
Surface resistance > 1012 Ω
Table 06: Electrical properties of iglidur® V400

Chemical resistance

iglidur® V400 bearings have a good resistance against chemicals. They are resistant to cleaning agents, fats, oils, alcohol, solvents, diluted alkalis, as well as diluted acids.

Radioactive rays

iglidur® V400 bearings are resistant up to a radioactive intensity of 2 x 104 Gy. Higher radiation affects the mechanical properties.

UV-resistant

iglidur® V400 bearings are largely resistant to UV rays.

Vacuum

The iglidur® V400 bearings can be used in vacuum only restrictedly. A degassing takes place.

Electrical properties

iglidur® V400 bearings are electrically insulating.

Installation tolerances

iglidur® V400 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit in a housing with h7 tolerance. After the installation in a housing with nominal diameter, the inner diameter of the bearing automatically adjusts to the F10 tolerance. In certain dimensions the tolerance in dependence on the wall thickness deviates from this (See delivery program )
